Friday 21 September, on the occasion of the ninth Artelibro Art Book Festival (Bologna, 21-23 September 2012), two events will be held at the MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna that centre on Aspiranti Aspiratori (Aspiring Aspirators), the experimental project carried out by the artist Sissi in collaboration with the Elica company and the Fondazione Ermanno Casoli, in the name of a constructive dialogue between art and industry, inaugurated last April at the 51st Salone Internazionale del Mobile.

At 6 pm there will be a presentation of the artist’s book Sissi Aspiranti Aspiratori, edited by Marcello Smarrelli, artistic director of the Fondazione Ermanno Casoli, and published by Edizioni Corraini.
The book documents all the phases of the project. Invited by Elica – world leader in the production of kitchen extractor hoods – to participate in the process of developing an unconventional and innovative approach to the purification of air, the artist has assembled the preparatory studies for her creations in a hand-written and hand-bound book, a manifesto of Sissi’s reinterpretation of industry: a pulsating body able to play host to the artist herself and spark off an osmotic and constant exchange with her.

At 7 pm the exhibition Sissi Aspiranti Aspiratori, inspired by the book of the same name and curated by Marcello Smarrelli, will open in the spaces of the MAMbo Educational Department. The show, promoted by the Fondazione Ermanno Casoli and Elica in collaboration with the MAMbo Educational Department, presents drawings, collages, reflections and sculptures that contributed to the story, with a mythological flavour, of the birth of ten Aspiring Aspirators, i.e. ten devices for purifying the air, each with a well-defined identity of its own and a name that reveals its pre-eminent characteristic, linked to its form or function. Also on show will be the animated video entitled Casting, which recounts their genesis, and three of the ten Aspiring Aspirators, realized by Sissi following the process of selection that lies at the base of theories of evolution and that has been applied in this case to machines.
The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, during the opening hours of the museum, until 7 October 2012.
