The Game – una partita di calcio a tre porte (ie: a three-goal football match) is the title that artist Danilo Correale gave to the project he conceived for the Eramanno Casoli Prize XIV edition, which he won. The protagonists were more than 80 employees form three major companies in the Siena province – ColleVilca srl, PR Industrial Srl, and Trigano Spa. They were engaged in a football match, half sport event and half performance. The artist was inspired by the Danish Situationism painter Asger Jorn (1914-1973), who used the three-goal football match model to theorizing on what happens after the passage from a two-element system to a three-element one to overcome the competition and foster the strategic creation of alliances. Thus, The Game becomes a metaphor to read and interpret human relations.
In collaboration with three companies’ employees, Correale shaped the three teams identity:
REAL CRISTAL (ColleVilca Srl team), GLADIATORI (PR Industrial Srl team), ESUBERANTI 301 (Trigano Spa team). After a preparation period that took them more than six months, on December 8th, 2013 at the “Gino Manni” Stadium in Colle Val d’Elsa, they played the game with a referee, artist Cristian Chironi and their fans.
The final result is a movie documenting the whole creative process of The Game- una partita di calcio a tre porte, from the artist meeting the employees, to trainings, to the fan organization, to the match. The movie was projected in the three companies’ headquarters and was presented to the public on March 4th, 2014 in Siena, at the movie theater Nuovo Pendola. Finally, it was acquired by Museo MADRE of Naples and included in its permanent collection.
The Ermanno Casoli XIV edition activities were part of Pier Luigi Sacco’s project for nominating Siena European Culture Capital 2019.
